y we do run to help our best friend even after a bitter quarrel? y we do feel pleasure in hurting by the one we luv? y r we consoled by the one who made us cry? y do we love our loved one even when they hate us? Bcoz in life some defeats are always sweeter than victory.

Atlas Shrugged (in a nutshell)
When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

| कर भला, तो हो भला |
As you sow, so do you reap.
It is human tendency to expect good things in return. Without incentive, we wont indulge in good deeds, is it? We need some "promising" verses (like the hindi ones above) or some "threatening dire consequences" proverb (like the english one above) to motivate us to do the right thing.
Well, its not as bad as it sounds. Whatever works, as they say. Anyway, now the times seem to be such that even if the above incentives work, thats a big achievement in itself.
